Stuart passed away peacefully after a short illness and it has therefore been decided to close Avallon Solutions.

Welcome to Avallon Solutions - ISO 9000 Family of Quality Standards

Origin

The family is produced and maintained by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) based in Geneva . ISO has been developing voluntary technical standards since 1947. The ISO 9000 family first appeared in 1987. At that time it was known as BS5750 in the UK . The ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 (Environmental) families are the only 'management system' specifications produced by ISO.

The ISO 9000 family was revised in 1994 and again in 2000. Each specification in the family is described in Section 2 below.

The standard is updated via a Technical Committee (TC176) which is currently made up of representatives from 69 countries and observers from a further 14.

The latest versions of the ISO 9000 family are 4 standards as follows:

ISO9000:2000 Explains Vocabulary used in the standards
ISO9001:2000

The definitive standard

This standard specifies the requirement for a Quality Management System (QMS) and is the standard against which organisations are audited.

Replaces 1994 versions of ISO9001, ISO9002, ISO9003,

ISO9004:2000

Guidance

Provides paragraph by paragraph interpretation of ISO9001:2000

ISO19011 Auditing Improvement (currently under development)
